Singing the Blues

   By: Gabrielle Payne

This fall/winter season, everyone will be singing the blues. Now before you book a trip to the spa and stock up on your favorite ice cream, hear me out. I'm not talking about the sad blues. You see ladies, this season is all about denim.

Why does it seem like this is fashion’s most consistent trend? Well, jeans must be in our genes.

From the Vetements’ re-finished retro look to the mini skirt to ‘70s flare, this season is proving you can never be too blue!

Maybe denim fever is because of the sudden rise of street style. Maybe it’s part of the dressing-for-comfort and athleisure craze. What we do know is that a great pair of jeans make it much easier to put your outfit together.

Ever since the ‘40s when Claire McCardell brought denim to the forefront of the fashion scene as “The American Look,” the blue jean fabric continues to be the most iconic symbol of American style.

Walk the streets of NYC and you will see the blues everywhere, and not just in the places you’d expect. We’re seeing denim wedges, denim bandanas, and even denim totes.

Our Vignette Love Doctor says this season may be the time to break-up with your boyfriends…give them the boot(cut) and swap them out for some ultra-trendy flared crops. We saw them all over the runway and now we’re seeing this updated kicky 70s style on the streets from fashionistas like Leandra Medine and Alexa Chung.

So make like a very 90s Christina Aguilera and channel your inner “Jean-ie in a bottle, baby!”
