Becoming a Queen Bee, One Right Swipe at a Time
By Danie Minor

Describe your date in ONE word.
Quirky.
What did you do, where did he take you?
We wanted a super relaxed date. I’m not usually about getting all dressed up and going somewhere on a first date, what if he’s super weird and you’re stuck at this fancy dinner with him forever?? So instead we walked to a cute coffee shop and he got us coffee, then we just walked around Washington Square Park. He just moved to the city a few weeks ago, so I showed him around the West Village a little bit.
What were your thoughts on your date before and after?
Before the date I thought he was way too cool for me. He works at a huge magazine and gets to meet all of these celebrities everyday, and he’s super funny. What could be cooler? You
know? But during the date the quirks that were funny before I actually thought were kind of weird. Maybe a little too quirky.
If you could compare him to an animal, which would it be?
The Pink Panther. For sure. He totally walks like the Pink Panther. He swings his arms and bounces a little bit with every step.
Did he do or say anything that made you say WTF in your head?
Lol. Yeah. I referenced a song and he decided to sing the riff super loud in the middle of the street. Full falsetto and everything. I mean, I guess he sounded great, but I just didn’t know how to react at all.
What were your expectations being on Bumble? Why did you choose to go on Bumble?
I really didn’t have any expectations for Bumble. The more I used it I really just wanted to have funny conversations with hot guys- New Yorkers are surprisingly witty. I downloaded Bumble with one of my friends after we’d had a few glasses of wine and were sitting in a restaurant surrounded by couples. It was kind of a “why not” thing.
Did he look like he did in your pictures?
He did! I was actually really afraid he was going to be crazy short because I’m kind of tall myself. He was taller than me, and I’m happy to say he was just as cute as his pictures.
Did he try to make any moves on you?
He tried to hold my hand at the end of the night. That’s about it. Which I was thankful for.
What would your parents think about you going on a Bumble date?
My dad would probably get overprotective and want to make sure I wasn’t actually meeting an 80 year old man. Mom wouldn’t understand it at all and after trying to explain it six times I’d just tell her it’s eHarmony on your phone. She’d just be happy that I’m “getting out there and meeting new people.”
Have you guys talked after your date?
Yeah. A little bit. I really wasn’t into him like I thought I would be, so he texted me and I just didn’t put much effort into the conversation (if we’re being honest). I think he got the hint after a day or two.
So, we are guessing there's not going to be a second date...
Nah. I don't see myself dating him.
What would you tell other Vignetter's who want to go on a Bumble date?
Just do it. Why not? You’ll at least get free coffee out of it if the date really goes badly. Just make sure he’s not super creepy, there’s no shame in a little Facebook stalking.
